FolderMaestro Laptop File Check-Out is a powerful, easy-to-use application designed to provide file check-out capabilities for end-users needing off-line file editing access while maintaining file version conflict control.

With Laptop File Check-Out, laptop users can easily browse any directory on the network file server and simply “reserve” the file for off-line editing purposes. When doing so, a copy of the file will be placed locally on the laptop. The file server copy will be “locked” for editing until the laptop user “checks-in” their edits and updates the server.

With Laptop File Check-Out, any Windows Server can now add enterprise content management capabilities. Laptop File Check-out can work with FolderMaestro Server for multi-server companies or by itself for companies with just one server.

Using FolderMaestro Laptop in a One Server Environment

Used by businesses that may have only one office, but still need to coordinate among team members as they access files remotely, usually on their laptops. Users on laptops and desktops access files from the server and want to work on a local version of the file (stored on their machine) and want to make sure no other user is modifying the file while they are making changes. By checking-out the file from the server, the file is downloaded for local access and locked down on the server from edits until the file is checked back in. Once the user has finished modifying the file, the user checks the file back in and the updated copy of the file is synchronised to the server. Other users are now able to access and modify the latest version of the file.

Using FolderMaestro Laptop in a Multi-Server Environment

FolderMaestro Laptop can be used in conjunction with FolderMaestro Server edition. In a multi-server environment , FolderMaestro File Check-Out ensures that end-users, connected remotely (usually on laptops), can “check-out” shared files from the file server for remote editing. When a file is “checked-out”, FolderMaestro Server locks down the corresponding file across all servers until the laptop user “checks-in” their file edits and those edits are synchronised across all systems in the collaboration group.
